MASSENA A Chase Mills woman was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs following a motor vehicle accident investigation Wednesday morning, according to state police.
Melissa M. McCarthy, 42, was charged with first-degree operating a motor vehicle while ability impaired by drugs and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation at 3:29 a.m., officers said.
She was cited and released.

CHASE MILLS: The family of Patricia May (Boshane) Olmstead, with heavy hearts report the passing of a beloved mother, sister, wife and grandparent late Friday evening (February 5, 2021) at her home surrounded by her caring family after a battle with cancer. Patricia was 65 years old.
The family has entrusted her arrangements to the care and direction of the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.
There will be a Celebration of Patricia Life at a later date at the convenience of the family. There will be no public calling hours at this time.
Patricia was born in Gouverneur, NY on October 28, 1955 to the late Glenn and Olive (Mashaw) Boshane. She attended St. Lawrence Central School and graduated in 1973. She late meet her love of her life Danny L. Olmstead at a mutual friends hunting cabin one winter evening, and the rest as they say was history. They were married on July 14, 1975 in Omaha Nebraska where Danny was stationed while serving his country proudly in the United States Air Forc

HEWITTVILLE Morris J. Reed, “Jack”, 93, a longtime resident of River Road, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 26, 2021 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a short illness.
Jack was born on February 21, 1927 in Potsdam, the son of the late Jay W. and Verne Eva (Brayton) Reed and attended local schools. Jack proudly served his country in the US Navy, serving during World War II. On May 15, 1948, he married Selma Russell at the West Potsdam Methodist Church. She predeceased him on June 2, 2012.
Jack worked for time at Potsdam Feed and Coal, Potsdam Welding, and Bicknell Brothers before staring with the Operating Engineers Union, where he retired while working at Fort Drum. After his retirement, he started transporting mail from the Potsdam Post Office to various rural post offices including Chase Mills and Waddington. For over 60 years, Jack was an active member with Masonic Lodge, most recently with the Amber Lodge #395 and was a
POTSDAM â Northern Credit Union recently presented a $714 donation to the Potsdam Holiday Fund, which provides gifts, warm clothing and food to families with children and senior citizens in the Potsdam area who are in need of assistance during the holiday season.
Employees from all Northern Credit Unionâs nine tri-county relationship centers made personal donations, which were then matched by the credit union. The total collected was divided among the branches to present to a local charity of their choosing.
The Potsdam Holiday Fund serves families in need in Potsdam, Madrid, Hopkinton, Nicholville, Brasher Falls, Chase Mills, Fort Jackson, West Stockholm and Winthrop. Donations to the program are always welcome and appreciated and may be sent to the Potsdam Holiday Fund at PO Box 827, Potsdam NY 13676.
