Red Lakeâs Patrick Hunter is part of history in the National Hockey League.
The Ojibwe artist and graphic designer was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks to create the designs that would accompany the first ever Land Acknowledgement in the NHL.
His work debuted before the Blackhawks home opener on January 22.
Hunter says âItâs a big honour for me but I think to the viewers as well, little kids to elders, seeing themselves represented on screen on that platform, on that stage, is something thatâs life changing I think.â
Hunter, who now lives in Toronto, says the team approached him through social media and it took some time for him to realize that this was real.

This season, Purolator alone anticipates it will pick up and deliver roughly 46 million packages an increase of nearly 20% from last year.
While we can do our part to shop and ship earlier to ensure gifts make it under the tree, the company has also gone to lengths to increase its pick-up and drop-off locations to make it easier to stay connected with loved ones.
