Maharashtra to get 435,000 Remdesivir vials by month-end from Centre

Thackeray on Saturday said the state will get 4.35 lakh vials of Remdesivir for the period between April 21 to April 30 from the Centre.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for accepting the state s demand to increase the supply.
He had highlighted the need for more doses of the key medicine, used for the treatment of COVID-19, in the prime minister s interaction with chief ministers and also written to the PM separately on the issue, Thackeray said.
The present supply was 2.69 lakh vialswhich has been increased to 4.35 lakh vials, he said.
The state government had received a letter from the Union health ministry that this supply of Remdesivir will be for the period between April 21 to April 30, he said. ....

Maharashtra Congress demands free Covid vaccination for all by union govt


Saturday demanded that all people above the age of 18 be vaccinated against COVID-19 free of cost by the Union government.
Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole told reporters here that he had submitted a letter with the demand to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through Pune divisional commissioner Saurabh Rao.
He said the Centre was discriminating by approving different rates of the vaccine for itself, the states and private facilities.
The Union government on April 19 announced that all adults will be eligible for COVID vaccination from May 1, while private hospitals and states will be able to buy doses directly from manufacturers.

Maharashtra minister meets Governor to discuss taking varsity exams online

and technical education Uday Samant on Saturday met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to apprise him of the decision to conduct online examinations in 13 state-run universities amid a surge in coronavirus cases.
Speaking to reporters, Samant said the governor had given his approval to the decision, adding that the procedures to assess the answer sheet as well as declaration of results were also discussed during the meeting.
He said Gondwana University in Gadchiroli in Vidarbha managed to conduct online exams before other universities despite the belief that it would be a geographical challenge .
Asked by the media about Ahmednagar BJP MP Sujay Vikhe Patil reportedly carrying Remdesivir from Delhi to his home district amid a shortage of the injections, Samant said the matter should be probed. ....

Delhi's AIIMS to test, quarantine only symptomatic health care workers


The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on Thursday said that only the symptomatic health care workers will be tested for COVID-19 and only those testing positive will be isolated and the quarantine of asymptomatic contacts will be discontinued.
The decision has been taken in view of the current situation of COVID-19 leading to insufficient resources for contact tracing, and shortages of staff.
