MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Data shows Blacks and Hispanics in the Mid-South are getting the COVID-19 vaccine at a much lower rate than whites, even though experts said the virus poses a greater threat to those communities.
Early data suggests health officials have a lot of work to do reaching members of the Black and Hispanic communities.

In Mississippi, Blacks make up nearly 40 percent of the population but only 17 percent of the people who have been vaccinated, according to data from the Mississippi State Department of Health. ....

JACKSON, Miss. (WDAM) - The Mississippi State Department of Health reported the daily COVID-19 case count in the state had risen by more than 800.
MSDH reported 811 new COVID-19 cases and 27 additional deaths Sunday.
Three new deaths were reported Jan. 29, including one in Lamar County. Another 24 deaths were discovered during a review of death certificates between Dec. 12-Jan. 25, including one each in Jasper and Jones counties. ....

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 811 new cases of the coronavirus and 27 coronavirus-related deaths on Sunday.
Since the virus hit the state in March, a total of 275,001 cases and 6,045 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported.
More Mississippians have now died in January than any month since the state reported its first COVID-19 case in March.
The total number of coronavirus-related deaths for January is 1,230, according to state data. The previous record for coronavirus-related deaths in a single month was 983 during December.  ....
