Sherri Burr is the recipient of New Mexico Press Women’s 2021 Communicator of Achievement Award. The award recognizes members who have distinguished themselves within and beyond their profession. Bobcat Rescued in Coordinated Operation

Doña Ana County collaborated with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, and El Paso Electric Company to rescue a bobcat from atop an electrical pole Tuesday evening.
Residents in the Topaz Road area sighted the wild animal at the top of an electric pole and notified authorities and the electric company. Because the cat was stuck and in a precarious location, among live electrical wire, residents’ concerns and various other factors, a rescue strategy was needed.
“The county recognized that this situation was an ongoing public safety concern. The bobcat did not seem interested in leaving its perch or was too scared to do so,” said County Manager Fernando R. Macias. ....

LAS CRUCES - Dr. Benjamin Diven, who serves as medical director for several entities in southern New Mexico, has been recognized by the New Mexico Department of Health.
Diven was awarded the Tim Fleming Medical Director of the Year award during the New Mexico EMS ceremonies held Thursday, April 8 This award recognizes a physician who serves the EMS system through meritoriously executing their duties as an EMS medical director.
Diven serves as the medical director for Doña Ana Community College s Emergency Medical Services program, the Las Cruces Fire Department, Doña Ana County Fire and Rescue Department, New Mexico State University Fire Department, NMSU Police Department and Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority. ....

Las Cruces Utilities Has A Vital Part in City's Fire Safety Rating

In December 2020, Las Cruces Fire Department (LCFD) learned that its Insurance Services Office (ISO) Inc. Public Protection Class 1 Rating would remain in effect for the City of Las Cruces (City) for at least another four years. The rating allows for lower property insurance rates for home and business owners within city limits. Part of the rating was to review the City’s water supply readiness prepared by Las Cruces Utilities (LCU).

To re-evaluate for the rating, the ISO began its performance review of the City in December 2019. ISO collects and analyzes the data using their Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS) and then creates a Public Protection Classification (PPC) grade, which is then assigned to the community. ....
