Herd immunity on horizon in Oklahoma, but many unknowns of living with COVID-19 for long term


University of Oklahoma epidemiologist projects the state will reach COVID-19 herd immunity in the next six months or sooner but not yet achieve normalcy as we continue to unravel unknowns about a novel virus and our future with it.
Dr. Aaron Wendelboe, an OU public health professor, says he believes the worst of the pandemic is behind us, but we can’t let down our guards by removing mitigation efforts as variants of the virus circulate.
Wendelboe noted that his models indicate more than half of Oklahomans have some level of immunity either through infection or vaccination — not yet the likely 65% to 75% he estimates is needed for herd immunity. ....

UPDATE: Helicopter tasked to woman kicked in head by horse


She is in a stable condition.
UPDATE 5.10PM: A rescue helicopter has been tasked to the scene west of Rockhampton where a woman was said to have been kicked by a horse.
INITIAL 4.45PM: Paramedics and a helicopter are en route to an address in Morinish after reports that a horse kicked a person in the head.
Ambulance services were called at 4.32pm.

10. January 29-31, 1883
The first month of 1883 went out in a white blur here in Denver, with 19.3 inches falling over a few very cold days. This is the earliest date in the top ten, though that probably has something to do with when people began keeping records. This particular record was set only 25 years after Denver was founded, and only weeks after Thomas Edison installed the first electric lighting system in New Jersey. It’s a pretty good bet that a footand a half of snow was tougher to handle back then.

The most recent date on the list of the top ten Denver snowstorms was the pre-Christmas 2006 blizzard. The snowfall measured 20.7 inches, and completely screwed holiday travelers not only here in Colorado, but across the country, as the domino effect of airline cancellations kicked in. Hundreds of motorists had to be rescued from roadsides around the metro area, and drifting became an issue. But the main problem was the tangle at DIA, ....
