Province weighing its options for Eagle Pass Lookout after unauthorized rebuild

The province is weighing its options for the future of a remote fire lookout cabin in the Shuswap that s become a popular recreation destination.
In 2016, a group of volunteers built the cabin on the stone foundation of a historic fire lookout that had fallen into ruin.
Since then, the province asked the Shuswap Trail Alliance to consult stakeholders and produce a report on the options for the site.
That recently-completed report lays out seven options, from rebuilding the fire lookout as it would have looked in the 1920s, when it was first constructed, to removing the whole thing or returning it to its stone foundation. ....

B.C.’s COVID-19 case counts have surpassed several markers.
New cases rose above 1,200 and hospitalized cases surpassed the 400 mark, which is a concerning new record. Active cases also surpassed 10,000 cases.
B.C. provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry provided a monthly modelling update presentation today, which included data about cases in schools and at workplaces, and Vancouver Coastal Health also provided an update on cases at Whistler.
Modelling update
When it comes to geographic areas with most cases, Fraser South and Vancouver remain highest. Henry pointed out that there has been a shift from the northwest to the northeast regions of the province for more cases, which she said reflects the vaccine rollout. ....

Latest data show large increases in COVID-19 cases across Interior
The number of COVID-19 cases across the Interior continues to increase, new regional data show.
Kamloops, the Central Okanagan, Vernon, parts of the Kootenays and Penticton all recorded growing case numbers between April 4 and April 10.
Revelstoke charted a small decline, going from 25 between March 28 and April 3 to 21 in the latest figures.
In the southeast, however, large increases were logged.
Cranbrook went from two cases to 23, while Nelson went from eight to 13.
Kimberley went from zero to 13, Windermere from 24 to 34 and Trail from four to eight.
