New Delhi: Senior Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir, who was banned and taken off air by TV station Geo News, has offered an apology to the country’s powerful military establishment and said he did not mean to defame the Army.
A joint statement was issued by a committee formed by the Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ), the National Press Club and Mir Tuesday.
Last week, Mir, who hosted ‘Capital Talk’ on Geo TV for nearly two decades, was taken off air indefinitely after he criticised the Army in a fiery speech at a rally in support of a fellow reporter, Asad Ali Toor on 28 May. Toor was earlier beaten up by three unidentified men in his apartment in Islamabad. ....

ISLAMABAD: A prominent Pakistani journalist, who was taken off air indefinitely for making hard-hitting remarks against the country s powerful military establishment in the wake of an attack on a fellow scribe, has apologised and said he had no intention to defame the army.
Hamid Mir, the popular host of political talk show ‘Capital Talk of Geo News channel, on May 28 delivered a fiery speech at a protest staged by scribes against an attack by three unknown persons on journalist and YouTuber Asad Ali Toor in Islamabad. ....

ISLAMABAD: Senior jour­nalist Hamid Mir has offered apology over his recent speech at a protest against attacks on journalists and said he had no intention to defame Pakistan Army.
A joint statement issued by a committee formed by the Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ), the National Press Club and Mr Mir on Tuesday said Mr Mir briefed it about his speech at a protest demonstration on May 28. He said he had no intention to defame the army, had high regard for the sacrifices rendered by it and had covered army operations from Siachen to the LoC.
Mr Mir said he made a speech during a protest outside the NPC against attacks on journalists. He said he got carried away after spee­ches by other speakers as he too had faced an attack in the past. ....
