Dog Attacks Boy, 4, During Playdate, Mother Finds Him Covered in Blood

A four-year-old boy is recovering after he was attacked and bitten in the face by a dog in Michigan earlier this month.
Kaiden McCray was attacked while playing at a relative s house in the east side of Detroit after a dog a Mastiff Shepherd, according to Fox 2 Detroit entered the backyard.
McCray s older brother and cousin intervened to get the dog away from him, but the incident left McCray s face, head, and legs injured.

WASHINGTON (AP) Ecologist Rolf Peterson remembers driving remote stretches of road in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and seeing areas strewn with deer carcasses. But that changed after gray wolves arrived in the region from Canada and Minnesota.
“When wolves moved in during the 1990s and 2000s, the deer-vehicle collisions went way down,” said the Michigan Tech researcher.
Recently, another team of scientists has gathered data about road collisions and wolf movements in Wisconsin to quantify how the arrival wolves there affected the frequency of deer-auto collisions. They found it created what scientists call “a landscape of fear.” ....

Jennifer George lives in a semi-rural area in San Diego County and used to watch various animals wandering into her yard from a distance until she thought of a genius idea to take a better look. On a hot day in 2019, she decided to get some water for a family of coyote pups and a wholesome hobby took off from there.
She started with a simple metal bowl of water which became pretty popular among local animals as it can get pretty hot in California and it has since been upgraded into a real animal thirst trap a bigger bowl and a solar fountain. Now a variety of animals come to visit George s backyard every day for a refreshing drink or free pool party. But the best part is that we can explore feathered, furry, and even scaly critters and their behavior from up close thanks to a hidden camera set up outside the fountain. And some of them, like snakes and coyotes, you probably wouldn t like to meet in person anyway! ....

Jackson Hole Wildlife Symposium returns


An every-other-year confab that convenes scientists and wildlife enthusiasts to learn about research and conservation efforts aiding animals in northwest Wyoming is going live this Wednesday.
Because of COVID-19, this year’s edition of the Jackson Hole Wildlife Symposium is being held virtually. The theme of the 8th biennial event, put on by the Northern Rockies Conservation Cooperative, is “human-wildlife coexistence.”
The live portion of the event will occur over Zoom from 2 to 3 p.m. Participants will hear opening remarks, learn the winners of a photography contest and the Craighead and Raynes conservation awards, and then have the option of tuning in for one of three breakout groups. ....
