Bedford Police Department Chief Robert Bongiorno and the Bedford police recently recognized the town’s Animal Control Officer during Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week.
Officer Mike Leskouski has been Bedford’s Animal Control Officer since 1997 and has served the same role in Lexington since 2016.
“The best part of my job is educating people about wildlife and helping injured wildlife,” Leskouski said. “It’s a pleasure to know that we’re doing something good for injured animals.”
Leskouski responds to hundreds of calls each year. Some callers may have a question, others report stray dogs, neighborhood nuisance problems, rabies concerns, and injured animals. ....

BAGS ARE REQUIRED: All solid waste must be placed in trash bags with a capacity of 33 gallons or less and tied shut, even if it is placed in a trash can. If the waste is not in plastic trash bags, sanitation personnel are not required to pick it up.

COLLECTION TIME: All items to be picked up must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the regular collection day. Do not place trash out more than 24 hours prior to your scheduled collection date. The exact time of collection depends on the volume of trash placed out and the number of crews picking up trash that day, so pick up times can vary on any given day. There is no solid waste pick up service on holidays observed by the City of Coweta. ....

Several dead swans that have been found around the Arlington Reservoir have environmentalists scratching their heads, but local officials are waiting for more evidence.
“This is scary, something about this is really creepy,” Marjorine Rines, a naturalist with Mass Audubon said.
So far, approximately four dead swans have been observed by local residents over the past month, all of the swans washing up along the shores of the Arlington Reservoir. In a response to a Facebook callout by The Advocate, one resident reported seeing three swans at the end of March, and a fourth dead swan in April. ....

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The communities of Parma and Brooklyn Heights announced Thursday they temporarily stopped trapping feral cats after so many residents expressed their concerns.
In the past four years, the Animal Control Officer has euthanized 25 cats and has placed 96 in rescues or homes.
Out of the 25 euthanized cats, some were injured or terminally ill.
City officials added they have received 245 cat related complaints over the past four years. ....
