India, USA extend nuclear cooperation partnership : Nuclear Policies

India and the USA have extended their Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation on the Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership (GCNEP) by 10 years. The centre - officially opened in 2017 - supports international cooperation in nuclear energy applications.

The GCNEP, near Bahadurgarh in Haryana state, aims to strengthen India s cooperation with the international community. It houses five schools to conduct research into advanced nuclear energy systems, nuclear security, radiological safety, as well as applications for radioisotopes and radiation technologies. Training facilities include virtual reality laboratories and a radiation monitoring, calibration and accreditation laboratory. ....

India s Minister for External Affairs, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar welcomes Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab in New Delhi.
UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab met Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi today (Tuesday 15 December), to set out the UK’s ambition for a strengthened UK-India relationship over the next 10 years.
His visit marked the latest step by the UK to build closer relationships with like-minded countries in the Indo-Pacific region, with India a key strategic partner for the UK. This comes ahead of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s visit in January and the UK’s invitation to India to be a guest country at our G7 Summit next year. ....

Boris Johnson to visit India next month to promote 'Global Britain'


The PM is also inviting India, along with Australia and South Korea, to attend the G7 summit of powerful nations in the UK next summer.  
Mr Johnson will also become the second British leader since Indian independence to attend the annual Republic Day parade in New Delhi as Guest of Honour. The last British PM to attend was Sir John Major in 1993.
The UK and India’s growing trade and investment relationship is worth around £24 billion a year and supports more than half a million jobs, according to the UK Government.  
It comes after Mr Johnson made a gaffe during Prime Minister’s Questions last week in which he appeared to confuse large farmers’ protests in India with the ongoing conflict with Pakistan.    ....
