3.2M DOSES.This undated photo shows a nurse preparing a Covid-19 vaccine shot to be administered at Project Balik Buhay in Cebu City. DOH-7 chief pathologist Dr. Mary Jean Loreche on Tuesday (Oct. 26, 2021) said the Central Visayas region already administered about 3.2 million Covid-19 vaccine doses.(PNA file photo by John Rey Saavedra) CEBU CITY - The Central Visayas region has administered a total of 3.2 million doses of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine seven months since the start of the national vaccination rollout in March, a Department of Health (DOH)-Region 7 official said on Tuesday. Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, DOH-7 chief pathologist, said the actual number of vaccine doses given to eligible population in the region was pegged at 3,270,115. Of the number, 1,716,049 were given as the first dose while 1,554,066 for the second dose, she added. About 73 percent of the total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered or 2,381,752 were given to the residents of the province of Cebu while the rest were distributed to the neighboring provinces of Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor. Loreche also reported that in seven months of inoculating residents in the four provinces in the region, the Regional Adverse Events Following Immunization Committee recorded only 0.1 percent or 4,518 of the 3.2 million vaccinees reported adverse events. She also commended the medical front-liners for achieving a 100 percent vaccination rate as of October 12. "This means that all 131,989 medical front-liners in Region 7 are already fully vaccinated," she told the Philippine News Agency (PNA). She also said that 38 percent of 595,649 senior citizens eligible for vaccination are already registered as fully vaccinated. At least 364,999 of the 632,799 persons who are master-listed under A3 category or persons with comorbidities have already been fully vaccinated. As of October 25, a total of 555,858 or 53 percent of 1,101,802 economic front-liners are fully vaccinated while a total of 46,762 individuals registered under "priority ROAP" or the rest of adult population are also considered fully vaccinated. The national government has delivered a total of 5.2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to Central Visayas and distributed to 284 vaccination sites in the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor. Nationwide rollout of pediatric vaccination begins Oct. 29

FOR KIDS ONLY. Children with comorbidities aged 12 to 17 receive their coronavirus disease 2019 vaccine shots at Las Pinas General Hospital on Friday (Oct. 22, 2021). Only Moderna and Pfizer jabs are being administered for now to the minors. (PNA photo by Avito Dalan) MANILA - Local government units (LGUs) nationwide will roll out pediatric vaccination beginning October 29, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the chief implementer of the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19, said on Friday. Following the pilot in the National Capital Region (NCR) on October 15 and 22 for the 12-17 age group with comorbidities, Galvez said provinces will also be included next week. "In the next few days, we are expecting to have an increase in our vaccination considering that we will be having a rollout of the children's vaccination in all LGUs," Galvez said in an interview during the arrival of more than one million Pfizer doses at the Ninoy Aquino International Airpo. LGU vaccination sites, including hospitals, have been inspected in preparation for the inoculation of minors. Some LGUs appealed that instead of hospitals, they will use their existing vaccination sites as their healthcare staff are trained on how to respond to adverse effects following immunization. "We made some adjustments that some of these vaccination sites will be set up near hospitals," Galvez said. The vaccines will be initially deployed to LGUs that have vaccinated at least 50 percent of their target population. Only Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been approved for pediatric inoculation. Meanwhile, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar directed all concerned police units and offices to coordinate with LGUs to help secure the vaccination of minors with comorbidities. "I have tasked police chiefs and unit commanders to maintain close coordination with LGU officials so that they will know what assistance police personnel can provide. Kailangang masiguro na masusunod ang health protocols kung ito ay gagawin sa mga vaccination sites at para hindi ito maging super spreader event (Health protocols must be followed if it will be done in the vaccination sites so that it will not become super spreader event)," Eleazar said in a statement on Saturday. Eleazar also urged police offices to help in educating and encouraging the parents to have their children vaccinated and protected from Covid-19. "Sa ngayon, ito ang pangunahin nating proteksyon laban sa nakamamatay na sakit bukod sa pagsunod sa mga protocols (As of now, vaccine is our main protection against this deadly disease aside from following health protocols)," he added. The country has so far received 94,678,340 doses of various Covid-19 vaccine brands, both procured and donated. Of the total, 54,444,161 have been administered. A total of 25,101,222 Filipinos are fully vaccinated as of Friday and since vaccination began on March 1. (with reports from Christopher Lloyd Caliwan/PNA) }
