No plan to release 2011 caste census data yet: Govt to RS | India News

NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday said the ministry of social justice and empowerment has no plan to release data captured as part of the socio-economic caste census (SECC) conducted in 2011 “at this stage”.
“The Union of India after independence, decided as a matter of policy not to enumerate caste-wise population other than SCs and STs,” junior home minister G Kishan Reddy said in reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.
The SECC 2011 was conducted by the ministry of rural development (MoRD) and the then ministry of housing and urban poverty alleviation (HUPA) in rural and urban areas respectively.
The 2011 data excluding the caste data have been finalised and published by MoRD and HUPA. The Office of the Registrar General had provided logistics and technical support in conducting the SECC 2011.
