A crash involving a Boeing 737 MAX operated by Lion Air killed 189 people in October 2018. Indonesia joins its neighbours Malaysia and Singapore in resuming use of the aircraft.
Around three years after the deadly crash, Indonesian government has finally lifted the ban on the Boeing 737 MAX, the transport ministry of the country said on Tuesday. In the crash, all 189 people on board this kind of aircraft, which was operated by domestic carrier Lion Air, had died. After another deadly mishap in March 2019, which involved similar aircraft operated by Ethiopian Airlines, aviation authorities around the world grounded this plane.
The program officially launched on July 2, 1996, and the first BBJ 737-700 aircraft rolled out of production on July 26, 1998.
