Illinois State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a suspect by a police officer in Macoupin County. Police had gone to a home in Brighton after a man at the residence called police and made what was described as an “alarming statement” on the call. Police talked with 47-year-old James Iler for nearly an hour… and then say he charged at a Macoupin County deputy while armed with a knife. The deputy shot Iler twice, killing him. No officers were injured.

All six are charged with multiple felonies with potential penalties ranging from ten to thirty years in prison. State’s Attorney Dan Wright says all six are being held in the Sangamon County Jail on bonds of anywhere from $200,000 to $300,000.
