Popular director Thamira, who has helmed movies likes Rettaisuzhi (starring K Balachander and Bharathirajaa) and Aan Devathai (starring Samuthirakani and Ramya Pandian), succumbed to COVID-19 today. He was hospitalised for almost 25 days and was on ventilator support. While the industry is in shock over his untimely demise, Ramya Pandian says the loss is more personal for her.
“We both are from Tirunelveli. Maybe that’s one reason we bonded really quickly. He treated me like I was his relative, and for me, he was nothing less than family,” says the actress, who starred in his last directorial, which hit screens in 2018.

Director Thamira who made films like 
Rettaisuzhi and 
Thamira had a dream launch in Tamil. His debut film 
Rettaisuzhi was produced by director Shankar and two legendary filmmakers K Balachander and Bharathiraja played pivotal characters in the film. The film also had Anjali and Aari but unfortunately bombed at the box office.
After much struggle, he made 
Aan Devathai with Samuthirakani and Ramya Pandian. The film had received mixed reviews but failed to make big money at the box office.
Sources say that Thamira was working on a script but unfortunately passed away today morning.

In a sad turn of events, Tamil filmmaker Thamira passed away on Tuesday, April 27, due to COVID-19. The 53-year-old film director died after suffering from complications related to COVID-19, in a private hospital in Chennai.
The filmmaker who made his debut in 2010 with Rettaisuzhi was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai, 20 days ago, after testing positive for coronavirus. Even after getting medical assistance for days, he wasn't able to recover. The director is survived by a daughter and three sons.

Tamil film industry's popular director Thamira passed away today on April 27 due to COVID-19 complications. He was undergoing treatment in Chennai's Maya Hospital in Ashok Pillar. Known for his work in films like Rettaisuzhi and Aan Devathai, fans and other celebs from the industry including Arun Vaidyanathan, Ramya Pandian, Shankar are shocked over the sudden demise of the director and paid their tribute on social media. 
"Oh my GOD. He directed both Bharathiraja and Balachandar in one film. Rest in peace Thamira sir," Vaidyanathan wrote.
