In his first ever 10,000-meter race, Iowa third-year distance runner Max Murphy stole the spotlight and punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet on Nov. 10. And for the second time in the 2023 season, Murphy rearranged the school record books first when he shattered the Iowa men’s.
The Iowa men’s and women’s cross country programs competed on Oct. 27 at the Big Ten Championship meet in Madison, Wisconsin. Both teams finished in the bottom half of team competition the men’s squad in 10th and the women in 14th. Individually, the Hawkeyes were led through the rainy, mud-covered race by third-year Max.
The Iowa men’s and women’s cross country programs both earned 11th-place team finishes at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Illinois, on, Oct. 13. Leading the pack once again for the Iowa women was fourth-year Amber Aesoph. She earned 30th place as an individual in the 6,000-meter race, as well as a new personal-best time.
