Tirupur: The city police recovered 30 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 9 lakh from two notorious burglars on Saturday.
The arrested people were identified as Bharathkumar, 33, of Vaikkalmedu in Sathyamangalam in Erode district and Abdul Hakkim, 31, of Amman Nagar at Mettupalayam. “They had decamped with 120 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 28 lakh from the house of A Shabiullah, 54, from Mummoorthy Nagar at K Chettipalayam in the first week of April. We recovered some of the stolen property from the duo and plan to seize the rest,” a police officer said.
“Bharathkumar is facing 15 theft cases at Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode. He was detained under the Goondas Act thrice. Hakkim is facing 12 theft cases in Coimbatore and Tirupur, and was detained under the Goondas Act twice,” the officer added.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested for murdering his roommate by stabbing at Pandian Nagar in the city. The accused identified as Rajkumar allegedly had an altercation with Chinraj regarding consumption of liquor, following which Rajkumar allegedly stabbed Chinraj in the neck late on Friday. Based on the complaint of other roommates, the police registered a case against Rajkumar under section 302 (Murder) of the Indian Penal Code and remanded him in judicial custody.
Two arrested for robbery
The Veerapandi police on Saturday arrested two history-sheeters on the charges of stealing cash and jewellery from a residence on Dharapuram Road. According to police sources, Bharathkumar (33) and Abdul Hakkim (31) broke into the residence of A. Shabiullah between April 2 and the early hours of April 5 and stole cash of ₹ 27 lakh and gold jewellery weighing around 120 sovereigns. The police registered a case on April 5 and after over three weeks of investigations, the accused were arrested. Both had various cases filed against them in other districts, according to the sources. A portion of the cash and jewellery were recovered from the accused, who were remanded in judicial custody on Saturday.

The 36-year-old, winner of the Kerala State award for the best hi-tech farmer of 2017-18, has four polyhouses, and aquaponics and hydroponics farms on 50 cents at his home in Anchal, Kollam district.

Chennai: Based on intelligence, the Air customs officials at the Chennai airport have seized 1.26 kg of gold worth Rs 63.47 lakh from eight passengers who had arrived from Dubai, of which, one has been arrested. 
Seven passengers of flight IX 1644 were intercepted at the exit on suspicion of smuggling gold. 22 gold cut bits weighing 600 grams wrapped in the black adhesive tape were found ingeniously concealed in the hollow pipes of baggage trolleys belonging to Rahuman Hameed of Ramanathapuram and Mohamed Niyas of Chennai. Niyas was arrested as he had an earlier offence registered against him.
Five bundles of gold paste weighing 681 grams concealed in the rectum were recovered from Ragamath Ali, Jameel Ahamed, Mohamed Mussammil, Syed Mujahideen of Ramanathapuram and Mohamed Ibrahim of Chennai. On extraction, the paste yielded 522 grams of 24K purity gold.
