Mr Olukoyede's nomination was confirmed despite the controversy over his qualification for the position.
The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Ola Olukoyede as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The upper legislative chamber also confirmed Muhammad Hammajoda as the secretary of the EFCC and Halima Shehu as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA). President Bola Tinubu on October 12, 2023, appointed Olukoyede and Hammajoda as the chairman and secretary of the commission respectively, but subject to Senate confirmation. The nominees were confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday.
President Bola Tinubu had nominated Olukoyede as the chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Shehu as the national coordinator, National Social Investment Programme Agency, and Muhammd Hammajoda as the new secretary of the nation's anti-graft agency.
During the screening and confirmation, Olukoyede highlighted that several Nigeria’s institutions and systems had been overwhelmed by financial crisis and committed to putting a stop to it without fear or favor and in accordance with the law.
