jim jimenez. sara and john are off. the israeli war cabinet is announcing that they will be gathering this morning, and voting on a deal to get the israeli hostages released by hamas in exchange for palestinian prisoners in israel. an announcement could come as soon as today about the culmination of this. and the number of hostages could be significant. a u.s. official says this is the closest they have been to a deal since the terror group kidnapped the innocent civilians in the october 7th attack. two israeli sources tell cnn is the names of who would be released, but regardless, it does appear that it will be a significant number, and potentially 50 women and children currently held in gaza in exchange, three palestinian prisoners could be released for every one hostage set free. on top of that, the swaps would be coming in a four to five-day pause in fighting. that is just some of the details of what this potential deal is starting to look like. we will get over t ....

volcanic eruption rising. live from our studio in singapore. this is bbc news. it s newsday. welcome to the programme. there s growing concern about the dire state of hospitals in gaza. the biggest, al shifa, is not functioning at all that description coming in the past few hours from the world health organization. this map shows all of gaza s hospitals marked by the red dots the un says 20 out of 36 are no longer working. at al shifa, premature babies have had to be moved out of their incubators, and there are reports that gaza s second biggest hospital, al-quds, has run out of fuel. the bbc has managed to reach a surgeon inside the al shifa hospital in gaza. here s some of what mar wan abu saada had to say about conditions there. at al shifa, out here we cannot see, everything is in total darkness, really. without electricity, without fuel, without water, even without food. and still, we are having more than 600 injured people. and we are suffering now with ou ....
