KISD now nearing 1,800 total COVID-19 cases


There have been 1,789 positive cases of the coronavirus among both students and staff within the Killeen Independent School District since March 2020, as of Saturday.
At the elementary level, 385 students and 456 staff have tested positive. At KISD middle schools, 232 students and 146 staff have tested positive, and 288 students and 153 staff have tested positive at high schools, according to the district’s COVID-19 dashboard, https://www.killeenisd.org/dashboard.
A total of 128 staff members and one student have tested positive at KISD’s non-campus buildings.
At least two teachers have died from complications with the virus.
There were 15 active cases of the virus — 10 students and five staff members — in the district as of Saturday, according to KISD. KISD keeps track of the active cases, by school, on its website. ....

Catalytic converter thieves target school buses in Colorado Springs


End-of-year field trips to the zoo, Garden of the Gods and college campuses have been called off for Atlas Preparatory School students because thieves stole catalytic converters from two activity buses last week.
Administrators at the charter school, which primarily serves low-income students in southeast Colorado Springs, also are scrambling to figure out how athletes can get to girls’ soccer games and track-and-field meets over the remaining few weeks of school.
“It’s rather unfortunate,” Brittney M. Stroh, executive director of Atlas Prep, which enrolls 1,100 kindergarten through 12th graders.
“We’re in the last four weeks of school, and we don’t have any way to transport kids to cultural and recreational field trips and sporting events. ....
