Calcutta High Court moves SC against its own judge’s order criticising acting chief justice Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya objected to Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal transferring a civil case from him to a division bench. The Calcutta High Court has moved the Supreme Court against an order of its own judge criticising the acting chief justice, Bar and Bench reported on Wednesday. The High Court’s administrative division has challenged Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya July 19 order regarding the transfer of a civil case from him to a division bench. Justice Bhattacharyya had criticised the court administration as well as Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal, on whose orders the case was reassigned. He had said that while the Chief Justice is the master of the roster, he is not the master of “all I survey” and the power cannot be exercised at his whims and fancies. ....

KOLKATA: The Calcutta high court on Thursday adjourned till Friday hearing in the Narada sting tape case, in which two senior West Bengal ministers, an MLA and a former Kolkata mayor were arrested by the CBI. All the four accused - ministers Subrata Mukherjee and Firhad Hakim, Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra and former mayor Sovan Chatterjee - are currently under house arrest as per the high court s order. A five-judge bench said that on Friday, it will first hear the recall applications by the four on the stay granted by a division bench on bail to them. It will then hear the CBI s prayer for transfer of the case to itself alleging mob pressure on the Special CBI court that granted bail to the four politicians on May 17, hours after their arrest. ....
