Addington School in Woodley gets new entrance to help reduce traffic

New entrance at Addington School in Woodley
A NEW entrance has been created at Addington School in Woodley to help students and parents access the site more easily.
School buses and parents will now be able to get in and out of the site directly onto Woodlands Avenue.
Work carried out this Spring, overseen by Wokingham Borough Council’s operational property team, created the entrance to help alleviate congestion for the school and its community, which now has its own dedicated entrance.
Its former main entrance for cars was via Leisure Road, off Woodlands Avenue.
The council said this entrance is often busy as it provides access to the Bulmershe School, Bulmershe Leisure Centre, Goals Reading five-a-side centre and Kingfisher Table Tennis Club.

Plans to reduce rising cost of supporting special needs children announced

There are growing concerns about the rising cost of supporting special needs children in Wokingham
PLANS to reduce the rising cost of educating special needs children in Wokingham have been announced.
Wokingham Borough Council says it is committed to supporting children and young people with special educational needs, but it is too reliant on expensive specialist private schools outside of Wokingham.
That is why the council, which currently spends around £18 million a year on helping these children, says it wants to create more places at schools in Wokingham.
By March 2021, the council expects to be left with a £5.98 million funding gap for education services and claims efforts to close that gap have been hampered by increasing demand for special needs support and the Covid-19 pandemic.
