BILLINGS — St. John s United long-term care facility in Billings received a donation that will allow five additional students to receive their education debt-free through a newly-established nurse apprenticeship fellowship program, according to a media release from St. John s.
In October, Stockman Bank gave a challenge donation of $50,000. On December 31, St. John s announced 23 community donors contributed an additional $60,000, for a total of about $110,000 donated to the fellowship program.
The program was started in April 2020 with an initial gift of $1 million from the Bruno and Evelyn Betti foundation of Lacey, Washington. St. John s signed on the first five nursing students in June 2020. ....

THE Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ) Cebu has called upon the Toledo City Government in southwestern Cebu to compel the Carmen Copper Corp. (CCC) to provide “enough” support to the families of Barangay Biga who have been evacuated after a deadly landslide occurred in a mining pit owned by the CCC in the barangay.
Teodorico Navea, PMCJ Cebu chapter convenor, said some evacuees complained about the “deplorable” state of the evacuation sites in Sitios Hag-it and Manokan.
“When we were there (on Dec. 31, 2020), many were insinuating that they might return to their homes because they could not sustain their lives there,” he said. ....

WASHINGTON U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 18 foreign nationals sought for their roles in known or suspected human rights violations or human smuggling and trafficking during a nationwide operation which concluded on Dec. 17.
The ICE National Fugitive Operations Program, in coordination with the ICE Human Rights Violators and War Crimes Center, and the ICE Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, worked with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Newark, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Seattle, San Francisco and Salt Lake City field offices to arrest these fugitives. ....

SEATTLE – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers removed a Mexican illegal alien, convicted of child molestation and living illegally in Washington state, to Mexico Tuesday.
On May 5, 2019, Ricardo Arturo Santiago-Silva, 46, was convicted in Skagit County, Washington, of child molestation and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes. He was sentenced to 31 months confinement and transferred to the Washington Corrections Center in Sheldon.
On June 13, 2019, ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers lodged an immigration detainer with the Washington Department of Corrections (DOC). ....
