Colonel Frederick “Shep” Sheppard, who has died aged 95, had a distinguished career as a soldier and then a police officer; serving in Second, Palestine, Malaya and Aden, he survived three assassination attempts.
He joined the Aden Police Force in 1956, and over the following 12 years, among other appointments, commanded the Aden Armed Police and then the South Arabian Field Force with the rank of Assistant Commissioner. ....
