"Unfortunately if a pet is left alone and they start hearing all of this noise, they are going to try and run for safety," explained Lynn Bourque, Adoption Supervisor at Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center. "They don't know that the fireworks are not going to hurt them." Some pets will be new to households since Christmas and will be even more startled when the celebration begins.
