i couldn t fathom 35 years in prison. to me that was a life. i was 16. 35 years was more than twice that. he was sent to an adult prison. i had to be a man. i couldn t be a kid. so i just put on a hard face and ignored everything i could. for my first eight years in prison i was in and out of trouble all the time, fights, talking back to guards. they don t take kindly to that so they lock you up, put you in the hole. i spent a lot of time in the hole. and then billy was moved to a maximum security facility. you re thrown into a new scenario, forced to cell with another grown man that you don t know. sometimes it s okay and sometimes you re not so lucky. sometimes you get thrown in a cell with a guy that does want to victimize you. almost always it would be somebody trying to punk me, trying to make me their girlfriend, because i was a young, cute, small white boy. ....
