HOMELAND SECURITY HAMPERS MARSHALLESE IN U.S.

By Aenet Rowa MAJURO, Marshall Islands (Yokwe, Oct. 18) – A community representative for Marshallese living in Arkansas said that new Homeland Security procedures have made it more difficult for some Marshall Islands migrants when they apply for Social Security and ID cards.
Carmen S. Chong Gum, Marshallese Outreach Coordinator, at the Jones Center for Families, said she took the initiative to provide local offices with information.
I gave a basic 30-minute power point presentation to the Social Security Agency office about Marshall Islands and Marshallese that have migrated to Northwest Arkansas, and took questions afterwards, said Chong Gum. ....
