Revealed: The greatest indigenous team since 2000

Member of the AFL Hall of Fame
"The indigenous rounds over the next two weeks are a celebration and I know the indigenous players love this round because they represent their community and, what's special, uncle Sydney (Jackson) is going to be celebrated.
"What a great way to recognise history and culture and football is a form of art, anyway.
"We have different players from different areas around Australia, bringing different skills and talent and the freakish ways they play the game. It's the art of football.
"Selecting this side is helping to celebrate that art.
"Look at the forward line. I'd hate to be playing on them

Willie Rioli is prepared to submit to regular drug tests to prove he can break the cycle of cannabis use in a bid to resuscitate his AFL career.
The Eagles football department are aware their board might take the issue out of their hands given his continued issues, which come after a two-year ASADA ban.
The AFL might also issue him with an illicit drugs strike, with the AFLPA and league to work through that issue in coming weeks.

AFL fan charges umpires in 'scary' scenes

But for every winner there's a loser and the Magpies fans were looking for a culprit.
Sports reporter Jacqui Reed was positioned by the race the umpires use to exit the ground when a furious supporter dressed in a Collingwood polo shirt charged towards the boundary line.
With several young children within a few metres, the man said "it's a f***ing joke" as he attempted to force his way towards the officials.
"These are the scenes post match tonight. Super scary when you're wearing headphones and don't hear anyone coming and suddenly they're right in front of you! Well done to the security guard," Reed tweeted.

Is it still Buddy or bust for the Swans?

That means Buddy is still king in the Harbour City - provided he can stay on the park.

The Swans’ hopes still begin and end with Lance Franklin. Picture: Tim Hunter.
■ Lance Franklin:
The biggest question mark of the season for Sydney surrounds the fitness of Franklin. A Swans' outfit with a fit and firing Franklin versus one without are very different prospects. The champion forward did not play a game in 2020, sidelined by hamstring and groin issues. The 34-year-old, entering his eighth season at the Swans, has already suffered a setback with calf tightness this pre-season. Franklin needs 56 more goals to become just the sixth player in VFL/AFL history to kick 1000 goals. Will his body let him get there?

Let the footy crowds back in: Kennett

Footy fans should be allowed to flow back into the MCG for Round 1 in line with the same logic being applied to the Australian Open tennis, Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett says.
Kennett said the Victorian Government's decision to "abandon" its COVID-19 elimination strategy in favor of allowing crowds at Melbourne Park must now be adopted for AFL matches.
The Olympic Blvd tennis precinct will be divided into three ticketed 'zones' when the Open kicks off on February 9 allowing for crowds of up to 50 per cent capacity.

"If we are going to have crowds at the tennis, then we are certainly going to have crowds in Round 1," Kennett said.
