the next week as heat advisories are issued for portions of northern california and western oregon. and severe storms are expected to slam the middle of the country. let's check in with meteorologist adam klotz for a fox weather forecast. adam >> adam: good morning kayleigh certainly steamy on fox square after days of big afternoon thunderstorms, actually a lot more sunshine the next couple days in the northeast but those aren't where the big weather stories are, let's dive into it. you showed some of them. there are going to be big storms across the middle of the country, still seeing some storms currently moving across portions of kansas and nebraska but right along a frontal boundary including places like denver stretching down across the midwest wichita st. louis and up towards chicago where you see a possibility of thunderstorms today winds up to 60 miles an hour, possibly hail, certainly heavy rain across this region. and then those very warm temperatures continue to linger in the desert southwest, 111 in phoenix today, 107 in las vegas. all of that heat is going to

diali dealing with these tremendous complications, nasa is having to deal with the florida weather. this is august in florida. fortunately no hurricanes are around the corner so they don't have to deal with that right now at least. but we are dealing with a ton of afternoon thunderstorms and we found out we have a strong storm coming through here a few hours ago. and we just learned from a top nasa official that lightning actually struck that launch pad where the artemis is right this minute. there's a lightning protection system around the launch pad and it appears to have done its job. you can see shots of lightning striking one of the towers, there are teams out trying to assess if there's any damage. but that's one of the many things that nasa is having to contend with. right now, the forecast for monday, 70% favorable conditions on monday. so fingers crossed it gets

historic rain in just a matter of hours. can you see that rain is pushing across louisiana area in towards arkansas and mississippi today although we will see the potential for flooding for parts of central and south texas. still to come. we could see 5 to 8 inches, maybe higher totals and isolated amounts. that's going to stretch into florida over the next five days as well. also florida, obviously, we have got the primary today, the turnout is pretty good. we could see some afternoon thunderstorms, so i think the best idea is to go out and vote this morning and then your forecast today across the country, very warm, especially for the northwest, the great basin, california, it's still going to feel warm and sticky for much of the country and the northwest you could set some records or near records on thursday it has been very warm across this region. we are tracking the tropical tr. watching this area of development. it might not get its act together which is great news. really incredible this time of

put a damper on the holiday plans. meteorologist karen mcginnis is monitoring the storm system. so what does it look like out there? >> just the combination of heavy volume of travelers at the major airports and the afternoon thunderstorms and then now we've got kind of the key iengredient for some delays and they include atlanta, raleigh, washington, d.c. and new york and into boston. that i-95 corridor, very active for this evening. also portions of the midwest, from chicago to kansas city. and even into the pacific northwest, later on in the day there could be some minor weather related delays. now these are not cancellations. they strictly apply to weather. and you could see there is a very active weather pattern across much of the united states. we could see the rick for severe weather across the northern great plains and that northeastern corridor. all right. this is tropical storm collin. it formed at about 5:00 this morning eastern time. just off the coast of south carolina. and most of the deep convection is further to the south.

but it also means that there will be the risk of a pretty strong rip current in some of the coastal areas of north and south carolina. then the risk of the afternoon thunderstorms. so if you're driving to a destination, watch out because some of those thunderstorms could really reduce your visibility tremendously. also during the afternoon, you start here and there you could see that flare-up of storms as we go toward the evening and storms across the northern tier, and the dakotas and into minnesota. we could see damaging winds and large size hail with a very languishing weather system. how hat is it going to be? temperatures in the 90s. dollars 97. as not as hot. but it does appear as if the weather trend as far as thunderstorms is concerned, it begins to taper off tomorrow and more so for july 4th. so we'll salvage part of the holiday for you. back to you, ryan. >> thank you so much. let's talk more about this now with henry hartfeld, the
