55-year-old woman killed in tree cutting accident in Livingston County

By BRENT MARTINSt. Joseph PostA 55-year-old woman died in a tree-cutting accident in Livingston County Saturday.The Livingston County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a call shortly before noon Saturday in the 4000 block of Livingston County Road 424 and found a woman who had been struck by a falling tree. The investigation revealed the woman had been cutting down the tree with a chainsaw when it fell and struck her.The Livingston County Sheriff's Office reports Chillicothe Department of Emergency Services responders took the woman to Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe where she was pronounced dead.The office reports Missouri Conservation Agent Caleb Pryor was the first emergency responder on the scene and assisted the Emergency Medical crew and Deputy Jennifer Plummer. ....

Missouri Department of Conservation launching new canine unit

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is set to launch a new canine unit through its Protection Branch this summer. The new unit, consisting of five dogs and their conservation agent-handlers, will be stationed around the state and used as necessary to work throughout Missouri.
According to MDC, the capabilities of canines are extensive in conservation-related work, but common uses include tracking, evidence recovery, search and rescue, wildlife detection, and public outreach programs. Another rapidly growing use of canines is in the field of endangered and invasive species. There are currently 36 other states using dogs in their conservation efforts. ....

MDC PROTECTION BRANCH TO LAUNCH NEW CANINE UNIT THIS SUMMER


The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is set to launch a new canine unit through its Protection Branch this summer.
The new unit, consisting of five dogs and their conservation agent-handlers, will be stationed around the state and used as necessary to work throughout Missouri.

Retriever-style dog breeds were specifically purchased for the MDC program, which consists of three Labrador Retrievers and two German Shorthaired Pointers.
