US Naval Air Systems Command has revealed that it is instituting a grounding bulletin for all V-22 Osprey variants.
The US military is grounding its entire fleet of V-22 Ospreys, a week after an Air Force CV-22 crashed off the coast of Yakushima Island, Japan, resulting in the deaths of all eight airmen aboard the aircraft.
The grounding of all Osprey tilt-rotors follows a fatal crash off the coast of a Japanese island that may be tied to a "materiel failure."
Air Force Special Operations Command said that "preliminary investigation information" into a Nov. 29 crash that killed eight "indicates a potential materiel failure caused the mishap, but the underlying cause of the failure is unknown at this time."
