Here s part of the statement from the national air traffic controllers association. quote, we have a growing concern for the safety and security of our members, our airlines and the traveling public due to the government shutdown. in our risk averse industry, we cannot even calculate the level of risk currently at play, nor predict the point at which the entire system will break. it is unprecedented. that letter was also signed by pilots and flight attendant groups who are responsible for the 43,000 flights each day. joining me now from d.c. is paul renaldi, president of the national air traffic controllers association. you say the level of risk is unprecedented. can you put that into perspective? if somebody is watching this and says, i have a flight this weekend, should i get on that plane, what would you tell them? i would tell them yes. i would also say the system, the safety of the national airspace system, is built off of layers ....

If you are at the airport this morning or making your way there, there s a good chance you may see and feel the impact of the now 31-day government shutdown. tsa screeners to mechanics, air traffic controllers, flight attendants, much of the aviation industry is being impacted by the shutdown. others are warning the impact is going to be trickling down to them soon. joining us this morning, sarah nelson who is international president of the association for flight attendants and dan mccabe, a representative from the national air traffic controllers association. their agencies signed a joint letter to the president, to speaker pelosi and mitch mcconnell urging them to bring the shutdown to an end. here we are. we heard from the president, of course, on saturday. dan, one of the things i noticed is there wasn t a mention of the 800,000 furloughed workers. and you are here speaking on ....
