In 2017, the genre-bending band Lake Street Dive went from a quartet to a quintet. The band members asked their newest musician, keyboardist Akie Bermiss, to come on board with a “marriage proposal.”
On a day off from touring, they took Bermiss out to a nice restaurant in Chicago. Midway through the meal, someone said, “What’s that?” And Bermiss turned away from the table, falling for the age-old trick.
“When I turned back there were five plastic engagement rings on my salad plate,” he told
NEXT. “And I was formally propositioned to become a member of the band.”

Obviously, the band is set to perform around the U.S this summer, including headlining performances at New York City’s SummerStage, Chicago’s Ravinia Festival and Denver’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre. In addition, the group will livestream their performances at Beak & Skiff Orchards in upstate New York on June 5 and 6 as well as their two-night runs at New Haven’s Westville Music Bowl on June 10 and 11. Lake Street Dive Performs ‘Same Old News’ On ‘Kimmel’ & Adds August 2021 Concerts

Lake Street Dive served as the musical guests on Wednesday’s
Jimmy Kimmel Live. The band, who recently added three August concerts to their tour schedule, contributed a remote performance of “Same Old News” to the ABC late-night talk show.

Obviously, a studio album Lake Street Dive released back in March. The quintet filmed the rendition of the song broadcast on last night’s
Kimmel in Brooklyn. Frontwoman Rachael Price shares lead vocals on “Same Old News” with keyboardist Akie Bermiss.
Lake Street Dive will play Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine on August 21. From there, the group heads to The Green at Shelburne in South Burlington, Vermont on August 22 and New York City’s SummerStage on August 24. Tickets for all three shows go on sale this Friday, May 21 at 12 p.m. ET (Portland, South Burlington, New York City).

The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit — stripped-down sets, an intimate setting — just a different space.
Lake Street Dive filmed its Tiny Desk (home) concert where the band is most at home: on stage at the "biggest little venue in NYC," Pete's Candy Store. All five band members managed to squeeze onto a stage no larger than the actual Tiny Desk to shine a spotlight on the Save Our Stages Act. Congress passed the $15 billion grant program last December as part of the $900 billion coronavirus relief bill. In the middle of the home concert, bassist Bridget Kearny recalls driving to the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn for a gig at Pete's, then driving back to Boston the very same night, long before they ever sold out Radio City Music Hall on the other side of the East River.

FUV Live: Lake Street Dive: 2021

We're so glad a "Marquee Live at Home" show let us welcome our friends
Lake Street Dive back to the WFUV airwaves. Rachael Price, Mike "McDuck" Olson, Bridget Kearney, Mike Calabrese and Akie Bermiss came us to us from The Bunker Studio in Brooklyn with a batch of new songs to play, as well as a couple of sentimental favorites to boot.
As the band told me in a mid-set chat, the new Lake Street Dive album,
Obviously, was recorded just barely pre-pandemic, and almost a year later, this live session was one of the quintet's first performances back together again in the same room. So even though connecting with the band via Zoom is anything but "same old," they could share the great Rachael and Akie duet, "Same Old News," the powerful, Bridget-penned "Being A Woman" and more, with that signature interplay and energy.
