The Virginia Port Authority has either sold or scrapped six massive ship-to-shore cranes at Portsmouth Marine Terminal, as preparations begin for two offshore wind projects.
PORTSMOUTH, Va., Oct. 18, 2022 — After the successful sale earlier this year of three ship-to-shore cranes through GovDeals, the Virginia Port Authority (VPA) has placed three additional ZPMC ship-to-shore cranes for sale on GovDeals, the leading online marketplace for government agencies and educational institutions to sell surplus assets.

It might seem odd that the port is selling off this sort of equipment now. It’s been expanding its two other container facilities, and two years ago welcomed four towering cranes to Virginia International Gateway to efficiently handle growing capacity.
