Alabama has committed $537 million in federal funds for high-speed Internet under plans state lawmakers and Gov. Kay Ivey approved last year and during a special session this month.
The money will be used for grants to help companies install the fiber cable and other equipment needed to deliver broadband to areas that don't have it.
The Governor and Legislature are focused on building upon this success, so during the recent Special Session of the Legislature, we allocated $260 million of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars in expanding broadband access.
