Ours Relieved of Duties | WYNR 102.5

Apr 2, 2021
After just over 10 and a half years on the job, Alan Ours is no longer the County Manager of Glynn County. Ours turned in his resignation letter during the County Commission’s February 18 meeting giving the board six months notice, marking his last dayon August 27.That came to an end last night as the commission voted 5 to 2 to exercise their employment contract option and terminated Ours as of yesterday - April 1st. Commissioners Bill Brunson and Cap Fendig were the two votes against Our’s early termination. Being a personnel issue the matter was discussed in executive session before the board reconvened in open session and passed the motion. Ours’ revised contract will pay him his normal salary through his August 27 resignation date. Commission chairman Wayne Neal said, with the search process now underway, the commission believes this is the right time for a fresh start. He said they appreciate the hard work and dedication Ours gave the county over the last decade and he is leaving behind a capable and professional staff who will continue to serve the citizens of Glynn County. When he submitted his resignation in February, Ours said, “Last August I hit the 10-year mark with Glynn County, so it just gave me pause to think about the next 10 years and where I should be serving. I realized and came to the determination, after much thought and prayer, it was time for me to leave.” Assistant County Manager Kathryn Downs will serve as Acting Manager while the commission goes through the search process to replace Ours. Earlier in the meeting, the commission voted to contract with the Mercer Group Associates of Athens, Georgia to conduct the search for a new county manager.

POCC Chooses 5 Finalist City Manager Candidates

Mar 10, 2021 12:47 PM
Port Orange, FL - The city of Port Orange received 84 resumes for the City Manager position vacated by Jake Johansson in December 2020. A consulting agency narrowed the selection to the top ten candidates and last night (March 9) members of the Port Orange City City narrowed that down to five finalists. They are Mike Bernstein, City Manager of Lake Worth; Wayne Clark, former Port Orange Community Development Director; Robin Hayes, City Manager of Mount Dora; Alan Ours, Manager of Glyn County, GA; and Brian Weiss, CO-Naval Airstation Jacksonville.  District 2 councilmember Chase Tramont said for him, it was easy to narrow down the selection. He wants someone who wants to be in and part of Port Orange. "What I found, at least from my top four candidates, is there is a genuine interest in the city of Port Orange from all these candidates. They've got some connection, each one of them do, with the city." Coming up next in the hiring process is a group tour of the city for the five candidates during the day on Thursday, March 18. That evening, there will be a meet-and-greet event for the candidates and the public at the Lakeside Community Center from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 19 will be a day of interviews, according to Tramont, beginning with one on one interviews between each Councilmember and candidate. That will be followed at 1 p.m. with public interviews. "Council will interview from the dais, one candidate at a time, and that will take place for as long as it takes. We are setting a goal to have a consensus by the end of the day." Tramont says the goal is to choose the person best suited to lead the city of Port Orange.

Is Ours Out Tonight? | 98.7 FM WGIG

It’s been no secret that the new county commission was interested in keeping an eye on County Manager Alan Ours’s job performance. If the rumors flying around are any indication, it looks like they won’t have to much longer.
While I’d heard some rumblings in recent weeks that there were changes coming to the county offices, no fewer than four sources have blown up my phone this afternoon insisting that the county manager is going to be turning in his resignation at tonight’s commission meeting. While the details vary—some have said they want to allow him to do it in executive session so no one will know he’s resigned until after March’s SPLOST vote—one aspect of the story is represented in every source’s account and is consistent with other rumblings I’d picked up in the recent past: that the final straw was the hiring of Carl Alexander as Special Advisor to the County Commission on the Glynn County Police Department.
