ROCKFORD — The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced Wednesday it is awarding $78 million to hundreds of public housing authorities across the country, including $3.2 million to 24 housing authorities in Illinois to help put HUD-assisted residents on the path to self-sufficiency. Of Illinois' roughly 130 housing authorities, 24 will receive funding. Rockford and Winnebago County housing authorities will each receive $144,000.
