AngloGold has stopped adding mine waste to its Calcinados tailings dam in Cuiaba to bring it in line with with global safety standards.
Decision comes after the JV partners completed a comprehensive review of the alternatives for the $925 million gold project.
[Colombian regulators shelved AngloGold's application for permission for the Quebradona copper and gold project] AngloGold Ashanti said on Tuesday that Colombian environmental regulator ANLA had shelved its application for a license for the Quebradona copper and gold project. AngloGold Ashanti stated that it had not received formal notification of the decision and that it could appeal. It points out that the decision to "file" an application is made when regulators determine that additional information is needed to confirm or reject the application.
ANLA's decision effectively halts the project's development, but does not deny the permit request.
