Publix, the most prominent private partner in Florida’s vaccine distribution network, strongly disputed a news report insinuating the company had been allowed to operate with little oversight.
The company’s corporate office offered strong words in response to a Miami Herald report regarding the supermarket’s COVID-19 vaccination program.
“From the beginning of the vaccination rollout at Publix pharmacies, Publix has been in direct and constant contact with the state, requesting direction and frequently detailing vaccination plans at our stores,” reads a statement from the Lakeland-based grocery chain.

Florida lawmakers reveal their ‘most robust agenda’ on flooding, sea-level rise

ST. PETERSBURG — State lawmakers debuted on Friday what House Speaker Chris Sprowls called the “most robust agenda to mitigate flooding and sea-level rise that the State of Florida has ever seen.”
Across multiple bills, the plan — deemed “Always Ready” — would create a hub for flood research and innovation at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, offer tax breaks to property owners who voluntarily raise their buildings and order the state to draw up a sea-level rise resilience plan.

The Governor is asking lawmakers to spend $1 billion on coastal resiliency over the next four years to combat climate change and a House subcommittee got an earful on the dire situation facing the state from experts Thursday morning.
16 million Floridians live near Florida’s 1,300 miles of shoreline, but the areas are at risk.
“The beaches are the largest single driver of our economy,” said Pepper Uchino, President of the Florida Shore & Beach Preservation Association.
Uchino told lawmakers the state can expect roughly a meter of sea level rise by 2100.
