The Bulldogs were in serious trouble with time winding down on Friday night at Marshall.
Since the started of the second quarter nothing had gone right. Down by 8 with four minutes to play in the game, Mexico looked to be on the way to their fourth loss of the season.
But in stepped Jordyn Thurman. The freshman guard drained a three that not only narrowed the gap, but also sparked a Bulldogs rally.
“That catapulted us,” said head coach Ed Costley.
Fired up, Mexico went on to claim a 49-43 come from behind victory to go 15-3 for the season.

Riley Thurman and Mya Miller set a goal for themselves as a tandem before the start of Friday night’s game at Kirksville: they would combine to score 30 points.
They didn’t. Instead, Miller recorded 19 and Thurman 12 – 31 points – as Mexico downed the Tigers 39-28.
“Riley just had fast break after fast break,” Alexis Willer said.
Most of these came in a fast paced spell that began midway through the second quarter and continued well into the third. Miller, Thurman and the rest of coach Ed Costley’s squad trampled Kirksville 19-0 over that stretch.

Mexico turned the ball over, Macon scored. Mexico turned the ball over, Macon scored. It’s a pattern that repeated on Saturday in the championship game of the Macon Tournament. Not at their best except for one quarter, the Bulldogs fell 63-40 to finish second in the weeklong event.
It wasn’t Mexico’s night, and to Blevins’ observation, Macon was almost unerring in their offensive touch.
