Stop onslaught on Fulani Communities – Ogun Police warn

The incident happened on Monday night when Igboho stormed the troubled area in Yewaland.
However, the spokesman of the Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, yesterday told newsmen in Abeokuta that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime.
Oyeyemi also disclosed that there have been attacks in the past three days on herdsmen settlements in Yewaland.
According to him, the settlements affected have been in existence in the area for many years, in some cases for over 20 years, and inhabited mainly by Nigerian herdsmen of Fulani extraction, some of whom he said were born and brought up in the area, and speak the Yoruba language with proverbs fluently.

The Sarkin Fulani of Igangan, Alhaji Salihu Abdulkadir has explained that he would love to return to the Ibarapa area in Oyo State because that was the source of his economic prosperity.
Abdulkadir was forcefully evicted from Igangan when a popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, invaded the Fulani settlement to send away killer herdsmen.
Sunday Igboho, who had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum to all the Sarkin and Fulanis in Igangan to vacate the community due to incessant killings and kidnapping, returned on January 22 to eject herdsmen from the area.
Hoodlums were said to have taken advantage of Sunday Igboho’s visit to set the Sarkin Fulani’s properties on fire as he reportedly escaped through the bush.

THE Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria, yesterday, called on the South-West governors to provide ranches for herdsmen before banning open grazing, to avoid further crisis, warning that outright banning of open grazing, without an alternative for herdsmen, was an invitation to greater disaster.

The embattled Sarkin Fulani of Igangan in Ibarapa Local Government Area of Oyo State, Alhaji Salihu Abdulkadir, has said he and his household had been unfairly treated by the violence meted out to them in the community.
Abdulkadir, who addressed a press conference in Ilorin, on Thursday, denied the involvement of his family in kidnapping or any other criminal activities in the community.
The Sarkin Fulani said seven of his kinsmen died while his property worth over N500 million was destroyed in the violence allegedly unleashed on them by supporters of Yoruba rights activists, Sunday Igboho.
He said, “My houses, 12 vehicles belonging to myself, my children, and some visitors were burnt and seven of my people were killed. The corpses of two were yet to be found and some of my animals were carted away.”
