Echo Pilot Sept. 1 A discovery during a father-and-son adventuring trip to Martin s Mill Bridge in Antrim Township on July 29 and a bit of detective work have reunited a Greencastle man with the class ring he lost 45 years ago. Jeremy Knowlton of Heathsville, Va., found John W. Thomas Jr. s ring while metal detecting in the east branch of the Conococheague Creek, as his son, Shrade, splashed in the water nearby. Sept. 3 Thousands of drivers will have to wait an extra two days before resuming their travels on U.S. 11 south of Greencastle. The road, traveled by about 13,000 vehicles a day, was scheduled to reopen Wednesday, Sept. 9, after being closed since Aug. 19 for a bridge replacement project. It is now scheduled to open Friday, Sept. 11. ....
A Special Gift for Our GA Community Sometimes we do not realize how much we cherish something until it is missing. Whether you have lived in the Greencastle-Antrim district for years, or have recently made us your home, there are special traditions that we hold dear. For many of us, those traditions bring comfort and a sense of unity to our community as we gather in the town center for the lighting of the tree. We welcome the holiday season as we search every closet and dresser to find the black and white attire our children need for our beloved winter concerts. Although we may leave 45 minutes early, we park our cars and take the half mile walk to our high school auditorium to find a place in an already packed venue, attempting to save seats for those we love. We delight in the candid humor of Dr. Plum as the instruments are tuned, wondering how we will ever find our children. Does this sound familiar? ....
Echo Pilot The virtual Greencastle-Antrim High School winter concert is now available on the Greencastle-Antrim School District website (gcasd.org), the G-ASD Facebook page and on YouTube at https://youtu.be/HVDFdM8 HNc The concert also will be broadcast on WRGG 93.7 FM at 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve and at noon and 6 p.m. on Christmas Day. They could not perform together because of COVID-19 so small groups of student musicians and vocalists were taped last week and the concert compiled by Bob Ranalli of All Sound Pro LLC. Strike up the band Vincenti s band students have only had their pieces for a month and they ve been critiqued individually on 30- to 60-second clips of music they ve sent in. Until the run-throughs prior to each recording session, they d never played the music together. There are more difficulties when we re not all together . this is a new experience because we re all together, said Gabby Grazette, a clarinetist. She is part of a five-piece woodwind ensemble that taped Monday morning. A coffee filter was secured with electrical tape over the bell of Megan Gingrich s alto saxophone. That type of COVID mask is also used to keep spit and germs from escaping from the brass instruments. In keeping with COVID protocols, the students were socially distanced, and the performance space was sanitized after each use. ....
