SANTA ROSA BEACH — One year after the May 6, 2020, wildfire that scorched 343 acres of southern Walton County, destroying 34 homes and damaging 25 others — but causing no deaths — the man charged in connection with the blaze appears headed to trial next month. Allen Boyd Smith, 59, of a Mussett Bayou Road address, was arrested just days after the blaze and charged with reckless burning of lands, burning illegal/prohibited materials and with an open burning violation.
