Prayagraj: The MP-MLA court on Friday framed charges against former UP cabinet minister in the BSP government Rakesh Dhar Tripathi under Prevention of Corruption Act. It is alleged that Tripathi, while working as a cabinet minister, amassed wealth disproportionateto his known source of income. From May 1, 2007, to December 31, 2011, Tripathi allegedly spent over Rs 2.5 crore though his known source of income was only Rs 50 lakh. The former minister failed to provide the account of extra income. District government counsel (criminal) Gulab Chandra Agrahri said, a criminal case was earlier registered against Tripathi for corruption. Subsequently, a corruption case was transferred to MP-MLA court, when it was set up as per the direction of the Supreme Court to exclusively hear cases relating to politicians.
Atiq Ahmad Prayagraj: The special court (MP and MLA) on Monday framed charges against former MP and mafia don-turned- politician Atiq Ahmad for murder and criminal conspiracy in two separate criminal cases. Atiq is presently lodged in Ahmedabad jail of Gujarat. He was present before the court through video conferencing. The first case relates to murder of one Jitendra Kumar under police station Dhoomanganj, Prayagraj, which had taken place in the year 2016. Jitendra Kumar alias Munna was shot dead when he was going towards NCR headquarter from Rajroopur on July 11, 2016. It is alleged that Jitendra was threatened and asked not to pursue a case relating to land dispute. The mother of the deceased, Surajkali had lodged an FIR in this case. Later, the police submitted chargesheet against Atiq and others. The special court took cognizance of the chargesheet and framed charges against Atiq for murder, criminal conspiracy, common intention, unlawful assembly and another.

His dramatic surrender in court came a day after the Lucknow police declared a reward on him for his alleged role in the conspiracy to murder Ajit Singh, a history-sheeter and former block pramukh from Mau, in January. In February, police then shot dead Girdhari alias Kanhaiya Vishwakarma, the alleged main accused in the case, and linked the dots to the former MP.
