Miners still underground at the Gold One operations in Springs are expected to resurface shortly after the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union said it has "decided to persuade them to come out".
Some of the miners who stayed underground for more than two days in a standoff between rival South African labour unions began returning to the surface Wednesday, their representatives and police said.
Police said that the miners have been held hostage since Sunday, allegedly by members affiliated to the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu).
