An anticipated 15 million low-income Americans will drop off Medicaid rolls as federal pandemic protections begin to unwind. Some states are telling people not to panic, and some are working to avoid a coverage gap for patients. Changing Republican stances on sex education and birth control are also in the news.
For the first time since 2020, Medicaid recipients must renew their application. That process will begin April 1st.
County health authorities reported 394 new cases and four deaths, bringing pandemic totals to 146,476 and 1,653, respectively.
For 3.6 million Pennsylvanians enrolled in Medicaid, the next few months will be a race against the clock to keep their health insurance coverage or a scramble to find a new option. During the pandemic, Pennsylvania and other states were able to continue Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
All told, state caseworkers must resume enforcing eligibility rules April 1 for more than 3.6 million people who are on Medicaid.
