Early Scandinavian settlers leave their mark on Palmerston North

Among this group of Scandinavian settlers were Anders and Marthe Ihle, and two of their children. Anders would leave his mark on his new home, building the first Fitzherbert Bridge over the Manawatū River. But in February 1871 he was in a new, unfamiliar land, having responded to an advert in a Norwegian newspaper the year before.
