Pocket-lint
(Pocket-lint) - Evidence has surfaced to suggest that the next Google flagship - the Pixel 6 - will feature Google s first custom-made home-grown processor.
Codenamed Whitechapel  - and also referred to as GS101 - this processor would see Google take a leaf from Apple, Samsung and Huawei s book, building phones that run on a chipset not designed and manufactured by Qualcomm.
The evidence appeared in the form of a URL to a webpage reserved for Android engineers and specifically mentions both the GS101 model number and Whitechapel codename.  ....

Android confirms Google Pixel 6 will have Google's own chip

Due to the fact that Android is open-source, developers and enthusiasts sometimes manage to catch interesting facts in the firmware. This time, they managed to find confirmation of rumors that Google is creating a special processor that can be used in the Pixel 6.
So, the reports of 9to5Google and XDA Developers found a mention of the Whitechapel platform in the Android Open-Source Project code. Recall that in their leaks, insiders, talking about the proprietary Google chip, mentioned this name and called it the GS101. Presumably, GS is Google Silicon.
Earlier it was said that the SoC is under development by the search giant in conjunction with Samsung. Therefore, a number of experts do not exclude the possibility that this will be an upgraded version of some Exynos chip. Interestingly, insiders promise us that Samsung is creating a processor for Xiaomi as well. ....

Google pretty much confirms a Pixel 6 with its own 'Whitechapel' silicon

Last year, it was reported that Google is designing its own chip called ‘Whitechapel’. It was reported to be present inside its upcoming Pixel smartphone and Chromebooks. A few weeks ago, a new report claimed that the Pixel 6 will be among the first phones to come equipped with the ‘Whitechapel’ chip. The company is internally calling its chip ‘GS101’, where GS likely stands for Google Silicon. Now, a new report has seemingly confirmed the existence of in-house silicone in the upcoming Google Pixel smartphone.
As per a report from
XDA-Developers, Google made a code change submitted to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). It is a team of Googlers who are attempting to update the SELinux policy of the OsloFeedback app, which is responsible for Soli radar gestures on the Pixel 4. While the code itself doesn’t reveal much, in one of the comments, a Googler responded with a link that leads to Google’s internal source code repo. ....
