BLOUNTVILLE â Plans for a new access road to Sullivan Countyâs under-construction West Ridge High School are at a dead end (pun intended) at least for the time being. The more than $65 million school will not get an access road off Jericho Drive next to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee, the county commission decided in a called meeting held virtually on Tuesday night. The new school, near Exit 63 of Interstate 81, is off Lynn Road, a curvy, two-lane route with multiple inclines. The road is partly in Kingsport and partly in Sullivan County. The county plan moving forward is to widen the county portion of that road to allow two buses to pass, which would require a 24-foot-wide paved surface.
A member of the Sullivan County Commission tested positive for COVID-19 the morning after attending a three-hour-long meeting at the Sullivan County Courthouse in Blountville, prompting ire from three other commissioners who said he should have quarantined while awaiting his test result. Commissioner Sam Jones Sullivancountytn.gov Commissioner Sam Jones, who represents Kingsport, said that on Friday morning, he got a phone call from the Sullivan County Health Department to notify him about his positive case. Jones said he got tested Dec. 16 because he had plans to visit family in Richmond over the weekend and wanted to make sure he wasnât taking the respiratory illness â which is currently rampant in the region â along with him.
